Ali Jackson Fibres

Alison Jackson (Owner/Operator)

I am a feltmaker living in Central Otago. Through the process of wet felting, I create woollen felt ‘paintings’, three dimensional felt objects and felted handmade soaps.

Wet felting is a totally rewarding and satisfying medium. Carded fibres are carefully layered and then wetted down with warm soapy water. Gentle pressure is first applied and then with increasingly rougher treatment, robust and beautiful felt is formed.

My felt ‘paintings’ are created using wool, cotton and silk fibres. These are dyed in rich colours which I lay out and through the process of wet felting form an impression of the original picture. I then machine sew and sometimes hand embroider sections of the felt to add depth and movement to the image.

Three dimensional felted pods tiny woollen bowls used for decoration, storing small treasures such as jewellery or small plants.

Felted soaps are handmade cold process soaps made by me wrapped in its own exfoliating blanket. The all wool felt acts beautifully as a loofah while carrying a beautifully hand crafted handmade soap within. It is biodegradable and easy to use.
