How the cruise ship markets started

Hello and welcome to our website,

I set up the ‘Port Chalmers Cruise Ship Markets’ in November 2015 to give the cruise ship passengers/crew & locals an avenue to purchase high quality, New Zealand made products by passionate locals. Little did I know that it would be such a success, this is down to my amazing Management Team and very talented stall holders who showcase their product to the world via my markets.

Season 2019/2020 we had 54 markets consisting of the ‘Double Up’s (when two ships are in) and markets when the bigger single ships are in Port. The ‘Double Up’s’ are held in the Town Hall and the ‘Single’ markets in the Pioneer Hall. That season we had 28,000 passengers through our markets . This customer figure has grown consistently though the following years placing us as one of the top 10 tourist attractions here in Dunedin.

During 2021 through to now in 2023, we have grown substantially to be considered one of the best Cruise Ship Markets on the New Zealand Cruise Ship circuit. We are holding 52 CSM this 23/24 season and looking forward to season 24/25 where we celebrate our 10 years of operation during next cruise ship season.

During 2019 we also won the West Harbour Community Board award for our ‘Outstanding Contribution’ to our community. I have stall holders from all over the south island, but most are from Port Chalmers. Your support of my 120 stall holders is appreciated.

We take our markets to other venues and work with our collaborative partners. The Queen’s Birthday long weekend we will be at the Wall Street Mall, Golden Centre Mall and Meridan Mall (1st, 2nd & 3rd June 2024) in the city and the 24th November 2024 we will be hosting the ‘Christmas Artisan Market’ at the Edgar Centre. We do hope you will join us to support our stallholders.

Thank you!

Julie
